Boat Tour to Pyramiden

A trip to the north of the Isfjord system. A ghost town as well as a magnificent glacier front and wildlife await you.

Tour plan

The boat trip leads over the Isfjord to Diabas - an impressive bird rock where thousands of birds breed - further into the Adolf Bay to the beautiful Nordenskiöldglacier which calves directly into the sea. A grilled lunch is served here. In the early afternoon we land in the old Russian ghost town Pyramiden. Once more than 1000 people lived here, today there is not much left of this golden age. We are welcomed by a Russian guide who tells us about the former life, history and culture of the old mining settlement. On the way back to Longyearbyen it remains exciting, because the boat passes an abandoned gypsum mine at Skan Bay.
